ABOUT BEL BEAR

Hi, I'm Mary – Former Research Scientist turned buttercream Cake Artist and founder of Bel Bear Bakes.

My cake journey began in 2013 – while working for a Research Group where baking could have been part of the job description. Many of my fellow colleagues were adept bakers, and there was always a vast spread when it came to staff birthdays and special events. I eventually felt too guilty to bring along store-purchased goods, and so, I baked my first round of cupcakes.

A very deep fondness for my stand mixer began thereafter, and I found myself thinking about cake flavour combinations and designs in between lab experiments. I enjoyed the whole process of baking from scratch and designing far more than I ever would have anticipated, and not long after, Bel Bear was born.

If I were to describe my decorating style, I would say I have an eye for colour, a hand for textured abstracts and a love for fresh florals – which I utilise to create, punchy, artistic and fashionable cakes. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect, and when it comes to cakes, I'm continuously learning, pursuing creativity, experimenting with new techniques and gathering inspiration wherever I can find it.
